I’ve heard from a few people recently who have installed the Windows 11 upgrade on their Windows 10 computer. Even though the upgrade seemed to go smoothly, Sage 50 did not work afterward. This doesn’t mean Sage 50 won’t work on Windows 11, it just means there is a lot that can go wrong when upgrading your operating system. Fortunately, in most cases, it shouldn’t be hard to get Sage 50 working.
If you are using Sage 50 version 2023 or 2024, you can try reinstalling the Actian Zen database engine (the underlying database Sage 50 uses). Download the Database Repair Utility and run the file. When it opens, click the Run button on the Remove Actian Zen line. You’ll be able to monitor the progress in the Result Log window. When it finishes, click the Run button on the Install Actian Zen line. When it’s finished, close the Sage 50 Database Repair Utility and try to open Sage 50. In most cases, Sage 50 will work at this point.
If Sage 50 still doesn’t work, or if you are using a version 2020, 2021, or 2022, you’ll need to uninstall Sage 50. (Don’t worry, uninstalling won’t remove your data.) I would also recommend uninstalling Actian Zen. Once they have both been uninstalled, reinstall Sage 50. After you reinstall, you may also need to install an update to get you back to the same release. For example, if you were using version 2020.2.0, but the installer you have is for version 2020.0.0, then after reinstalling you will also need to go to theĀ updates folder in your Sage 50 data path and run the 2020.2.0 update. Once that is done, your Sage 50 should work like normal. (Keep in mind that versions 2020, 2021, and 2022 did not officially support Windows 11 so there may be conflicts.)
If you are using Sage 50 version 2019 or older and run into this problem, you will need to upgrade to the current version of Sage 50. As I’ve explained before, reinstalling requires you to reactivate, but versions 2013 – 2019 can no longer be activated. Normally I’m happy to offer support to people using older versions of Sage 50 but, in this case my hands are tied. The best I can do is offer you a good deal on the upgrade.
