If you have ever tried to copy anything from a PDF and paste it into Excel, you know it usually doesn’t turn out well. There are applications that will convert PDFs into Excel files (with varying degrees of success.) But did you know that Excel has a built in tool to extract any table from a PDF?

Click on the Data tab of the ribbon in Excel. The click the Get Data button. Then choose From File and then From PDF. A window will open so you can select the PDF. Click Import. Excel will read the file and open another window listing each table contained in the PDF. Selecting a table from the list will give you a preview. To import the selected table, click the Load button. Excel will import the data and format it as an Excel table. Or, to make changes to the data first, click the Transform Data button. That will open the Power Query Editor window so you can filter, sort, or edit the table. Click the Close & Load button to close the editor and load the table into your Excel workbook.
