{"id":678,"date":"2013-02-27T10:25:12","date_gmt":"2013-02-27T16:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=678"},"modified":"2013-02-27T10:25:12","modified_gmt":"2013-02-27T16:25:12","slug":"save-sage-50peachtree-backups-to-any-folder-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/save-sage-50peachtree-backups-to-any-folder-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Save Sage 50\/Peachtree Backups to Any Folder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you make a backup in Sage 50\/Peachtree, it is automatically saved in the same folder that your company&#8217;s data is stored in.\u00a0 You can choose a different drive or folder, but Sage 50 won&#8217;t remember that location next time.\u00a0 An easy way to get your backups saved into the folder of your choice is to place a shortcut to that folder in your company&#8217;s Sage 50 data folder.\u00a0 Then backups can be saved to your designated location with just one extra double click.<\/p>\n<p>First, you&#8217;ll need to find out where your company&#8217;s folder is located.\u00a0 From the main Sage 50\/Peachtree window, choose <em>Company Information<\/em> from the <em>Maintain<\/em> menu.\u00a0 The <em>Directory<\/em> field shows the location of your data.\u00a0 Open <em>My Computer<\/em> or <em>Windows Explorer<\/em> and navigate to that location.\u00a0 The easiest way is to copy the contents of the <em>Destination<\/em> field and paste it into the address bar in <em>My Computer\/Windows Explorer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Next open another <em>My Computer window.<\/em>\u00a0 Find the folder you want to save your backups in, right click on it and choose <em>Copy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Go back to the window showing your Sage50\/Peachtree data, right click in a blank space and choose <em>Paste Shortcut<\/em>.\u00a0 Do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> choose <em>Paste<\/em> or, instead of a shortcut to that folder, you will get a copy of the other folder and its contents.<\/p>\n<p>To make a Sage 50 backup, go to <em>File &#8211; Backup<\/em> like usual.\u00a0 When you get to the <em>Save Backup<\/em> window, the shortcut should appear right after the folders. (If it&#8217;s not there, click the <em>Name<\/em> column heading to re-sort the list.)\u00a0 Double click the shortcut to jump to your backup folder and click <em>Save<\/em>.\u00a0 The ptb file will be saved to your backup folder instead of your data folder.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sage 50 defaults to saving your backups in the same folder your data is in &#8211; not very helpful if that hard drive fails.
