{"id":674,"date":"2018-07-13T12:05:14","date_gmt":"2018-07-13T17:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=674"},"modified":"2018-07-13T12:45:11","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T17:45:11","slug":"keep-row-and-column-headings-visible-in-excel-with-freeze-panes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/keep-row-and-column-headings-visible-in-excel-with-freeze-panes\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep Row and Column Headings Visible in Excel With Freeze Panes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When working in a large spreadsheet it&#8217;s helpful to keep the headings for your columns and\/or rows visible as you move around the worksheet.\u00a0 When you click on the <em>View<\/em> tab in the ribbon you will see a <em>Freeze Panes<\/em> button.\u00a0 Click it and you&#8217;ll have three choices.\u00a0 The first is the most flexible of the three.\u00a0 When you choose <em>Freeze Panes<\/em>, the rows above and to the left of the currently selected cell will be frozen to act as headings.\u00a0 They will stay on screen no matter how far you move down or to the right. So if you want rows 1 and 2 frozen as column headings and column A frozen for row headings, you would click on cell B3, then choose Freeze Panes.\u00a0 You will see black lines appear showing you which rows and columns are frozen.<\/p>\n<p>The other two options, <em>Freeze Top Row<\/em> and <em>Freeze First Column<\/em>, do exactly what they say.\u00a0 So you can quickly freeze one or the other without worrying about the position of your cursor.\u00a0 Choosing either of these options will remove any previous settings and apply your new choice.\u00a0 So if you want to freeze both columns and rows, you must use the <em>Freeze Panes<\/em> option.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that all three options will be applied relative to what is currently on screen.\u00a0 For example if row 20 is the first visible row and you choose <em>Freeze Top Row<\/em>, row 20 will be frozen, not row 1.\u00a0 As a result you will not be able to scroll above row 20.<\/p>\n<p>To turn <em>Freeze Panes<\/em> off, simply go back to the <em>Freeze Panes<\/em> button on the <em>View<\/em> tab and choose <em>Unfreeze Panes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/j1edUVsT9Wg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Freeze Panes lets you keep row and columns headings visible as you scroll through a large spreadsheet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[9,5],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/674"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=674"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/674\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1164,"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/674\/revisions\/1164"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=674"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=674"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=674"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
