{"id":275,"date":"2011-03-31T00:21:22","date_gmt":"2011-03-31T05:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=275"},"modified":"2012-09-24T14:15:41","modified_gmt":"2012-09-24T19:15:41","slug":"tables-in-ms-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/tables-in-ms-word\/","title":{"rendered":"TABLES IN MS-WORD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Microsoft Word, tabs work fine for indenting paragraphs and other  small tasks.\u00a0 But if you want to display rows and columns of information  in the middle of a document, tables will save you a lot of headaches.\u00a0 A  simple example would be an office telephone directory:<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>NAME<\/td>\n<td>PHONE<\/td>\n<td>FAX<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Mahon, Stewart<\/td>\n<td>770-555-8700<\/td>\n<td>770-555-8712<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Weatherford, Margie<\/td>\n<td>770-555-8701<\/td>\n<td>770-555-8713<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>To insert a table, click on the <em>Insert<\/em> tab on the ribbon.\u00a0 Use your mouse to select the number of rows and columns you want in your table or click on <em>Insert Table<\/em> to manually set the table&#8217;s properties.\u00a0 In Word 2003 or older you can use the <em>Insert Table<\/em> button on the toolbar or use the <em>Table<\/em> menu.\u00a0 If you need a long table, don&#8217;t worry about the number of rows.\u00a0  If you press tab from the last cell in a table, a new row will be  added.<\/p>\n<p>The table will be inserted with all the columns evenly spaced.\u00a0 If you  put your mouse over one of the vertical lines, you will get a double  headed arrow and you can drag the line left or right to adjust the  columns widths.\u00a0 If you select a cell first, you can change just that  cell&#8217;s width instead of the whole column.\u00a0 You can adjust row heights,  but you usually don&#8217;t need to because rows automatically adjust to fit  whatever text you enter.<\/p>\n<p>To remove or change the borders, right click anywhere in the table and choose <em>Table Properties<\/em>.\u00a0 On the <em>Tables<\/em> tab click the <em>Borders And Shading<\/em> button.\u00a0 If you remove the borders you will still see blue dotted lines  showing where the table is.\u00a0 Those lines won&#8217;t print, they only show on  screen.\u00a0 But if you would like to hide them click the <em>Layout<\/em> tab while your cursor is in the table.\u00a0 Then you can use the <em>View Gridlines<\/em> button in the ribbon to turn the gridlines off or back on.<\/p>\n<p>Other formatting options like shading, alignment or merging cells work  basically like they do in Excel.\u00a0 So you shouldn&#8217;t have too much trouble  getting the table to look the way you want.<\/p>\n<p>The tab key will move you from cell to cell within the table.\u00a0 But you can still use tabs inside a cell by using <em>Ctrl+Tab<\/em>.\u00a0 And if you need to you can even insert a table within a cell of an existing table.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"640\" height=\"510\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4nutQ6Ltijk\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While tabs still have their place, tables are a much more powerful and flexible tool to help format documents in MS-Word.
