{"id":2457,"date":"2020-05-27T14:54:03","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T19:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=2457"},"modified":"2020-05-27T14:54:03","modified_gmt":"2020-05-27T19:54:03","slug":"keep-column-widths-when-copying-cells-in-excel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/keep-column-widths-when-copying-cells-in-excel\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep Column Widths When Copying Cells in Excel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you copy and paste cells on a spreadsheet, do you get tired of having to resize the columns where you pasted the cells?\u00a0 There are two good ways to copy the column widths along with your data.<\/p>\n<p>Copying entire columns is the fastest and easiest way to copy contents and formatting at the same time. Click on a column heading to select a column, or click and drag to select multiple columns, then right-click on the selected column(s) and choose <em>Copy<\/em>. Next, right-click on the column heading where you want to place the copied cells and choose <em>Paste<\/em> to replace what&#8217;s in the destination column or choose <em>Insert Copied Cells<\/em> to move the selected column to the right and insert the column(s) you just copied. Everything in the selected columns and all formatting, including columns widths will be copied to the new location.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t want to copy entire columns, select just the cells you want to copy, right-click on your selection and choose <em>Copy<\/em>. Then right-click where you want to to paste the copied cells, go to the <em>Paste Special<\/em> submenu and click the <em>Keep Source Column Widths<\/em> button\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/0b92990bba1267be26b8ca6db\/images\/4a0a7ebd-e3f4-4e38-b493-7ca25f5bd341.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"30\" height=\"33\" \/> or press <em>W<\/em> on your keyboard.
