{"id":233,"date":"2017-03-15T09:45:34","date_gmt":"2017-03-15T14:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=233"},"modified":"2017-03-15T10:31:25","modified_gmt":"2017-03-15T15:31:25","slug":"troubleshooting-formulas-in-excel-with-evaluate-formula","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqaccountingsolutions.com\/blog\/troubleshooting-formulas-in-excel-with-evaluate-formula\/","title":{"rendered":"Troubleshooting Formulas In Excel With \u201cEvaluate Formula\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve all written a formula in Excel and gotten an unexpected result.\u00a0 Maybe it was an error message or maybe it just wasn\u2019t the number you were expecting.\u00a0 Excel&#8217;s Evaluate Formula tool will walk you through calculating the formula, showing the result of each step, so you can easily find and correct problems.<\/p>\n<p>To use it, click on a cell with a formula in it. Go to the <em>Formulas<\/em> tab on the ribbon. Then click on the <em>Evaluate Formula<\/em> button in the Formula Auditing section. A window will open displaying your formula.\u00a0 Part of the formula will be underlined. That underlining shows which part of the formula is being evaluated in this step.\u00a0 Click the <em>Evaluate<\/em> button at the bottom of the window and the underlined portion will change to the result for that step.\u00a0 In other words, if the underlined portion refers to cell A3, it would change from showing \u201cA3\u201d to showing whatever is in A3.\u00a0 Or if the underlined portion was \u201c100 \/ 5\u201d it would change to \u201c20\u201d.\u00a0 Each time you click the <em>Evaluate<\/em> button it will advance one more step through your formula.
